Oregon State RB Damien Haskins, OL Leo Fuimaono medically retire

The Oregon State Beavers weren’t looking to contend for the PAC-12 championship this year, but things certainly didn’t get easy for them this year. On Friday, it was announced that running back Damien Haskins and offensive lineman Leo Fuimaono would be forced to medically retire from football.

Haskins and Fuimaono were both entering the 2016 season looking to make impacts for the Beavers offensively. The former was seen to backup starter Ryan Nall while the latter was seen as the potential starting center.

There was no reason given as to why they were pulled from the sport of football, but it will greatly affect the Beavers entering the 2016 season. During his career, Damien Haskins rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown, while Fuimaono joined the team in 2015 from Los Angeles Harbor Community College and had two years of eligibility left for his career.

“I was thinking about the bigger picture later in life,” Fuimaono said after he explained that doctors told him he risked paralysis if he continued playing. “I feel good about my decision.”
