Over the last few years, the dark cloud hanging over the state Pennsylvania is the one that involves former Penn State assistant Jerry Sandusky and head coach Joe Paterno.
New details in the child abuse case reveal that the former head coach did actually ignore complaints 40 years ago.
Documents revealed on Tuesday that a man, identified at John Doe 150, testified in 2014 and said Sandusky had touched inappropriately while he showered at camp in 1976. During his testimony, he said that he wanted to speak with Paterno, but the coach ignored his requests.
Court records said: “Is it accurate that Coach Paterno quickly said to you, ‘I don’t want to hear about any of that kind of stuff, I have a football season to worry about?’” the man’s lawyer asked him in 2014.
“Specifically. Yes … I was shocked, disappointed, offended. I was insulted… I said, is that all you’re going to do? You’re not going to do anything else?”
This is certainly incriminating evidence that anyone who still supports Joe Paterno can take as very serious going forward. It is time to realize that Paterno, while one of the greatest college football coaches of all time, will always have this dark cloud hanging over his head as well as the entire Penn State football program.
