John Franklin III is one of a handful of players competing for the Auburn Tigers starting quarterback job. Franklin is in competition with Jeremy Johnson and Sean White, but if head coach Gus Malzahn’s comments at SEC Media Days are any indication, the job could be Franklin’s by the time the regular season rolls around.
Malzahn was discussing the quarterback race, when he noted Franklin has come a long way in earning the respect of his opponents.
The head coach also raved about the signal-caller, saying Franklin “is the guy to be impressed with” when it comes to the competition on the practice field.
“[Franklin’s] really won his teammates’ respect, which is always important for a new guy coming in. It’s very important to him. He’s a hard worker,” Malzahn said, via Rivals.
Of course, despite the praise, Malzahn stopped short of naming the 6-foot, 183-pounder his starter.
So while it seems like all of the momentum is in Franklin’s corner, only time will tell if he is the man under center when the Tigers take the field for their season-opener against Alabama A&M at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday, Nov. 19.
