Dave Paulsen has been a staple in college basketball over the last two decades and it looks like he will be sticking around at George Mason for just a little while longer. The Patriots gave the coach an extension through the 2021 season after just one with the team.
Athletic director Brad Edwards announced the extension on Wednesday as he said Paulsen looks to get the program “back on firm footing” this year. The Patriots look to get back to being a top mid-major program in the near future.
The Patriots have not been back to the NCAA Tournament since the 2011 season, but with Paulsen in charge, they could certainly get back to being a big contender in the country.
Dave Paulsen went just 11-21 last year, but they return an Atlantic 10 all-rookie team pick in guard Otis Livingston II, who started all 32 games and averaged 11.9 points. Paulsen is 407-235 overall and previously led Bucknell to four regular season championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances as well as a Division III national title at Williams College.
