Among all the teams that are expected to compete for a national championship this season, the Louisville Cardinals are not one of the them. Don’t tell that to head coach Bobby Petrino as he has set pretty high expectations for his team this year.
Petrino, who is in his second run with the Cardinals, recently sat down with CN/2 Sports in Kentucky and talked about his team’s goals this year. He seems pretty adamant on the team’s shot at competing for a national championship.
It certainly seems like Petrino has a lofty goal for this team, but you can’t ignore the possibility of them doing just that this year. They have some talented players on both sides of the ball as quarterback Lamar Jackson returns to make a statement and their defense consists of players like Shaq Wiggins, Josh Harvey-Clemons and Devonte Fields.
The Cardinals have gone 17-9 the last two seasons with bowl appearances in each. Could this team be ready to compete for an ACC title or possibly even a spot in the College Football Playoff?
