The Memphis Tigers are looking to turn things around in the 2016-17 college basketball season after missing the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
They start over with Tubby Smith taking over the program, but they lose their only returning center in Nick Marshall.
Marshall has been missing from the campus all offseason and it was reported that he was back home with his pregnant girlfriend after telling Smith he was going to be taking care of his sick mother. It seems his leave from the team will be a permanent decision as he tweeted that he was “sticking with” his decision to leave Memphis.
Before he set his Twitter account to private, Marshall said “[I know] people want me to come back to Memphis but I can’t. It’s a choice I made and it’s a choice I’m sticking with. I’m very sorry.”
Nick Marshall played sparingly behind Shaq Goodwin during his freshman season as he averaged 3.1 points and 2.7 rebounds. He was expected to be a big part of their team this year, but they will now have to replaced him with even more youth.
