John Kasich may no longer be running for president, but the Ohio governor is still campaigning.
According to the Cincinnati Enquirer, Kasich is stumping for the Cincinnati Bearcats and making the case for the university’s inclusion in the Big 12 as the conference weighs expansion options.
Kasich reportedly wrote a letter to Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowslby making the case for Cincinnati, noting it was an “outstanding choice to expand the conference’s reach and nationwide appeal.”
The good news for Kasich is that a number of experts believe Cincinnati is among the favorites to join the conference.
“I am convinced that the University of Cincinnati will be a strong, competitive addition to the Big 12 Conference and I fully support such a move,” Kasich wrote in the letter obtained by The Enquirer.
Big 12 officials are currently determining whether to add two or four teams to the conference.
They are hoping for a decision by the start of the 2016 season.
