Houston to apply for waiver for Tren’Davian Dickson

The Baylor Bears lost a number of players in the 2016 recruiting class after Art Briles was fired earlier this year. Wide receiver Tren’Davian Dickson was one of them and the Houston Cougars want to get him on the field this year.

Since Dickson had signed his letter of intent and enrolled at Baylor, going to Houston would have counted as a transfer for him, meaning he would have to redshirt the 2016 season. The Cougars are reportedly planning to file a waiver to the NCAA so he could be eligible in 2016.

If the Cougars are successful in their efforts, they would receive one of the better receivers in the 2016 class. It would give quarterback Greg Ward Jr. a terrific target to help replace Demarcus Ayers, who left for the NFL after the 2015 season.

It will be interesting to see what the NCAA rules on this as it could open the door for other players like Kameron Martin and Donovan Duvernay to play this year as well.

The Cougars open the 2016 season on Sept. 3 when they play Oklahoma at NRG Stadium.
