Starting safety Leonard Davis dismissed from Tulane

The Tulane Green Wave think they could make a big impact in the Conference USA this year with new head coach Willie Fritz at the helm. However, their defense took a hit on Thursday after projected starting safety Leonard Davis was dismissed from the team.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune confirmed on Thursday that Davis had been dismissed from the team. No reason for the dismissal has been given at this point.

Davis joined the Green Wave in 2013 as a two-star safety out of Reserve, Louisiana. He recorded 14 tackles and a sack in 2014 from a reserve role and had to redshirt last year due to academic reasons.

He was projected to be the team’s starting safety in 2016, but they will have to replace him this year. The Green Wave open the season on Sept. 1 against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons.
