Monday Night Raw recap: Cesaro enters US Title picture

Tonight’s episode of Monday Night Raw was surprisingly focused on the United States Championship picture as Rusev and Roman Reigns furthered their feud leading up to their announced match at SummerSlam in just 13 days. By the end of the night, however, there was another man that had inserted himself into the title picture and his name is Cesaro.

The night started off with Enzo Amore and Big Cass calling out Chris Jericho after their encounter last week. Jericho claimed to have some backup in the form of fellow Canadian Kevin Owens.

This led to a match between Amore and Jericho, with Y2J winning after some dastardly tactics from Owens. It seems the Certified G’s and the team that I am now affectionately referring to as JeriKO are on a collision course for Brooklyn.

Another interesting development to point out is the fact that Women’s Champion Sasha Banks defeated Dana Brooke in a match where if the champion won, Brooke would be banned from ringside at SummerSlam, but if Brooke won, the match would become a handicap match with Banks facing her and former Women’s Champion Charlotte.

The Tag Team Championship match is set as The New Day will defend against Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. The champions, whose reign will be one day short of a year at SummerSlam, will be without powerhouse Big E at the event after he suffered an injury to his, well, crotch area.

Cesaro last week defeated The Celtic Warrior Sheamus and earned a future championship match, but they faced off again and the Swiss Superman pulled off the win again. This led to a point later in the night where Cesaro interrupted Rusev and challenged him to a championship match.

Cesaro seemed very close to winning the title for a second time in his career until Sheamus interfered and cost him the match. This likely sets up a match involving all four men in a few weeks.

The Universal Championship picture came around when Seth Rollins walked down to the ring and claimed that he didn’t believe in all the mythology surrounding Finn Balor’s name. He claimed that he would defeat Balor just like he beat so many others on his way to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

Balor was not in the arena, but he did cut a promo in a very eerie segment explaining that he was destined to be the champion. He explained that his name came from the Demon King, Balor, a figure in Irish mythology.

SummerSlam is just a few weeks away and it is certainly shaping up to be a great show. With just one episode of Monday Night Raw left to go and Brock Lesnar confirmed to make another appearance, what surprises will be in store for everyone next week?
