In recent weeks, teams who are campaigning for inclusion in the upcoming Big 12 expansion have had their fair share of supporters backing their cause. However, the Houston Cougars are not receiving an endorsement from former coach Dana Dimel, who currently serves as offensive coordinator at Kansas State.
Dimel recently discussed the issue of Big 12 expansion and shared his belief that the Cougars would not be a good fit for recruiting purposes.
“You can recruit Houston,” Dimel said, via Kansas.com. “If they get into the Big 12 they will be tough to beat in recruiting because of the proximity.”
That’s certainly an interesting take, because a majority of those who support Houston’s inclusion in the conference because it makes geographical sense. But you can’t get upset for Dimel about being honest and trying to keep every advantage he can have.
After all, Houston has developed into one of the top teams outside of the Power Five Conferences, so you can’t blame Dimel from trying to keep a talented team off the schedule whenever they can.
Unfortunately for Dimel, though, Houston appears to be favored as one of the Big 12 expansion teams, so he better get used to going up against his former program.
