Bobby Petrino claims Twitter was hacked after liking inappropriate tweet

It looks like something happened in the world of social media Wednesday that could get Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino wrapped up in a bit of controversy.

His official Twitter account seemed to “like” another account that was linked to an adult film star.

However, it seems like Petrino wasn’t aware of exactly what happened with his Twitter account on Wednesday, so it could be chalked up to an intern playing a sick joke on him or it was actually hacked.

He released a statement to Sporting News on the incident Thursday morning.

“I was alerted this morning that there was inappropriate material on my official Twitter account. While the account is generally under my supervision, there are multiple people, and possibly an unauthorized user who have access to my account. We’ve always taken the appropriate steps to make sure our official social media accounts are secure and are we taking measures to make sure this situation never happens again.”

Petrino is most remembered for when he was fired at Arkansas due to an infamous situation that saw him having an affair with a female football staff member. Louisville took a chance on him by re-hiring him ahead of the 2014 season.

He spent four seasons with the Cardinals from 2003-2006 before leaving for the NFL and the Atlanta Falcons, where he went 3-10 before leaving midseason to take the job with the Razorbacks. He spent four seasons there, going 34-17, before being fired.

Petrino went 8-4 with the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers in 2013 and then rejoined the Cardinals in 2014. He has an overall record 58-18 with two conference championships at Louisville.
