Texas QB Jerrod Heard making switch to WR

Before Wednesday, there was a pretty good quarterback competition going on at Texas with three players vying for the starting job. However, it seems sophomore Jerrod Heard may have dropped out of the race as he will could possibly switch positions to play wide receiver.

Chris Tavarez of KXAN in Austin reported that Texas safety Kevin Vaccaro told him Heard was making the switch to wide receiver and it would take affect immediately into the 2016 season.

This certainly opens the door for the other two quarterbacks in the race for the starting job.

This likely leaves the possibility for true freshman quarterback Shane Buechele to see some playing time for the Longhorns this year. It also helps senior Tyrone Swoopes, who split time with Heard in 2015.

Last year, Heard threw for just over 1,200 yards and five touchdowns against five interceptions. He also rushed for over 500 yards and three scores.
