Smackdown Live recap: Cena gets the upperhand over Styles

The final Smackdown Live before SummerSlam has come and gone and we are now just days away from the Biggest Party of the Summer in Brooklyn. It was a fun night from Austin, Texas as we head into the show this weekend.

The match between AJ Styles and John Cena is arguably the biggest match for the blue brand this Sunday and it will be fun to see this second match-up between these two legends. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship picture between Dean Ambrose and Dolph Ziggler seems to take a backseat, but it took an intriguing step forward when they met in the ring on an episode of Miz TV.

After Ambrose got the upperhand on Ziggler last week by hitting him with a Dirty Deeds after they worked together in the tag team main event, the Showoff got his revenge by superkicking the champion, but this time on purpose.

Naomi made her return to WWE television on Smackdown Live with a new look and she was certainly feeling the glow. But her scheduled match with Eva Marie didn’t go as planned.

Randy Orton faced off against Heath Slater in what seemed to be a warmup match for Brock Lesnar. While he ended up losing the match by disqualification, he certainly showed he isn’t scared of what may come from the Beast.

Ambrose faced off against Wyatt Family member Erick Rowan as the Eater of Worlds Bray Wyatt watched from ringside. The Lunatic Fringe pulled off the win and Wyatt mysteriously left Rowan laying in the middle of the ring.

Cena took to the ring for his first match on Smackdown in nearly a year as he faced off against Alberto del Rio. While his opponent ended up getting the win, Styles, who was at ringside during the match, attacked his SummerSlam opponent and seemingly left with the advantage to end the show.

However, Styles got too greedy and Cena got the upperhand. He hit Styles with two Attitude Adjustments, with the latter being through the announcer’s table.

It will certainly be a fun night this Sunday when WWE takes to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
