Alberto Del Rio suspended 30 days for wellness policy violation

WWE susperstar Alberto Del Rio hasn’t been heavily involved on Smackdown Live since he was drafted to the blue brand in July and it looks like he won’t be missed for the next month. He has been suspended for 30 days after his first violation of the company’s wellness policy.

The company announced his suspension, which is set to take effect tomorrow, on Wednesday afternoon. This comes just a day after he lost to John Cena on the final Smackdown Live before Sunday’s SummerSlam.

He will return just days before Smackdown’s first exclusive pay-per-view, No Mercy, but likely won’t have a storyline to be involved with upon returning. Del Rio returned to WWE at last October’s Hell in a Cell show, where he defeated Cena for the United States Championship, after over a year absence from the company.

Currently, there are reports that Del Rio has a clause in his contract allowing him to opt out next month, so this suspension could lead to his second departure from the company in the span of two years.
