The Southern Miss Golden Eagles aim to be one of the best teams in the Group of Five this year and have already been picked as the favorite to win the Conference USA championship.
Their team received some extra motivation on Wednesday when they got the first look at their new locker room.
The team opened the new $1.5 million locker room on Wednesday and it certainly seemed like the players enjoyed seeing it for the first time. It is a welcome change and the Golden Eagles should feel like champions in their new digs.
“Does it sound like I have a little pride when I talk about it?” Southern Miss Director of Athletics Bill McGillis said. “But my joy, my pride, is from all the former players who built this locker room and made it happen, the generous donors who made it happen and these young men playing here today.”
One of the coolest features of the locker room are the six panels in the middle of the room that displays the tradition of Southern Miss football, including former quarterback Brett Favre and former defensive end Jamie Collins.
The Golden Eagles won the Conference USA West and played in the Heart of Dallas against the Washington Huskies. They look to make a big move in 2016 as they open the season on Sept. 3 against Kentucky.
