The Texas Tech Red Raiders football program finished last season in the middle of the Big 12 with a 7-6 record. This weekend, they look to build off of last year to compete with the top teams in the conference.
To do so, they will need veteran leadership on the field, and they will get just that after head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced the team captains for the 2016 college football season on Monday.
Texas Tech’s 2016 team captains are as follows:
- junior quarterback Patrick Mahomes
- senior offensive lineman Baylen Brown
- senior defensive back Justis Nelson
- senior linebacker Luke Stice
Mahomes is coming off of a breakout season in 2015 where he threw for 4,653 yards, 36 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. He added 456 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground.
Brown has been a standout along the offensive line throughout his career. Since his freshman season, he has been a part of the offensive line and has consistently seen action as a start.
Stice and Nelson lead their respective positional groups on the defensive side of the ball which will be key to slowing down the dynamic Big 12 offenses.
