Following Saturday night’s season-opening loss to the No. 2 Clemson Tigers, Auburn linebacker TJ Neal, who transferred to the program from Illinois, was openly critical of his lack of playing time.
Neal sent out a series of messages on Twitter, bout his previous success in the Big Ten and his disappointment that his family traveled so far to see him play in just two special teams snaps.
“What a night it been for me,. A player who have 25 career starts and many stats Sat on the bench all night. Gots be more than life this. 245 career tackles, 20TFL’s, 2sack ,1 INT, 1FF and All Big ten honorable mention. I been playing football since 5 years old. I am a hard worker, I am well mannered and talented young man, who respect others. I have the world greatest mother, she drove 12 hours with my 2 sisters to come/support me and see me play two reps on special teams. Frustrated in my feelings!”
The messages were later deleted.
And now, after allowing his emotions to settle, Neal once again took to Twitter but this time it was for an apology.
Auburn returns to action next weekend against Arkansas State. We’ll have to wait and see whether Neal gets the reps he feels he deserves or whether he will have to once again swallow his pride as a special teams contributor.
