Drew Brees seeking 4-year, $100 million deal with Saints

The New Orleans Saints have been trying to re-sign quarterback Drew Brees to a new deal for most of the summer in hopes of restructuring his contract, saving cap room and keeping him around until the end of his career.

However, it looks like he wants to get paid big money over the last few years of his career.

CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported that Brees and the Saints have re-entered contract talks and the veteran is seeking a deal that would make him one of the highest paid players in the league. The deal is reportedly look for would be worth $100 million over four years.

While Brees has proven his worth in the past, at 37 years old, $25 million per year does not seem worth the trouble for a team with one of the worst cap rooms in the NFL. It certainly seems like it could be time for the Saints to move on from Brees, despite everything he has done for the team and the city of the New Orleans.

In 10 years with the Saints, Drew Brees has thrown for over 48,000 yards and 348 touchdowns. He has led the NFL in passing yards six times in his career, including four of the last five seasons.
