Georgia Tech football: Dedrick Mills, KirVonte Benson suspended

The Georgia Tech football team’s depth in the backfield has taken a big hit ahead of the team’s Week 2 meeting with Mercer.

On Thursday, it was announced by head coach Paul Johnson during a media conference call that starting B-back Dedrick Mills and backup running back KirVonte Benson have been suspended for this weekend’s game for an unspecified violation of team rules.

Last week, Mills led the team in rushing with 68 yards while securing the win over Boston College with the game-winning touchdown with under a minute left in the game.

Marcus Marshall is expected to fill Mills’ B-back role.

Benson did not play against Boston College.

The Yellow Jackets and Mercer are set to kick off at 3 p.m. ET at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Historic Grant Field in Atlanta on the ACC Network.
