The Atlanta Falcons were without defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman for their season-opening loss against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
While the team claimed that they were wanting to run a nickel defense, reports indicate he may have been inactive due to an ongoing domestic violence investigation.
Hageman was charged with interference with a call for emergency help, battery family violence and cruelty to children in the third degree in March.
The Falcons elected to activate defensive tackle Courtney Upshaw over Hageman on Sunday. It will be intriguing to see how they handle this situation going forward.
Ever since Ray Rice’s arrest back in 2014, the NFL has been more sensitive to domestic violence issues. The Falcons face off against the Oakland Raiders in California next week, so it will be interesting to see if the team’s 2014 second round draft pick will play or even travel with them.
