During the Florida Gators’ 45-7 victory over the Kentucky Wildcats this past Saturday, star wide receiver Antonio Callaway went down with a quadriceps injury. It looks like he could be out for the team’s game against North Texas this weekend then possibly the following weekend against Tennessee.
Callaway, who leads the Gators with 201 yards and two touchdowns, might not be available for Saturday against the Mean Green and head coach Jim McElwain said he feels “a little nervous” for his status against the Volunteers next weekend. Quarterback Luke Del Rio also commented on possibly being without their star player.
“You do want to get these young guys some reps and some throws to them, get some live action because it is invaluable,” Del Rio said. “It’s different. Game speed is very different.”
The Gators are already without Tyrie Cleveland this week, so it could be interesting to see how they adjust to being down two big players.
The Gators and Mean Green face off at 7:30 on Saturday at ESPNU.
