FCS coach: ‘I’d mortgage my house’ on Washington winning national title

No. 8 ranked Washington plays host to the Portland State Vikings of the FCS this weekend as the Huskies look to advance to 3-0 on the season. While it is common to have respect for an opponent, Portland State coach Bruce Barnum seems to really believe in the Washington program.

In fact, Barnum believes his team is going up against a national championship contender.

When speaking about the Huskies, Barnum made the claim that he would mortgage his house to bet on Washington winning the national title this season.

“I wouldn’t be shocked at all [if Washington won the national championship],” Barnum said via the Seattle Times. “I don’t know what the odds are in Vegas because I can’t gamble because I’m a head coach in college football but … I’d mortgage my house and put it on the Huskies.”

That’s a pretty strong claim from the opposing head coach, but Washington certainly appears to be a team trending in the right direction.

It will be interesting to see how everything turns out this weekend and whether the Huskies use Barnum’s Vikings as a stepping stone en route to a run towards the College Football Playoff.
