Florida QB Luke Del Rio injures knee, likely out against Tennessee

The Florida Gators had a lot of trouble at the quarterback position in 2015 after Will Grier was suspended due to his positive test for performance-enhancing drugs. It looks like 2016 won’t go much better after Luke Del Rio suffered a knee injury on Saturday.

The Gators pummeled North Texas 32-0, but in the third quarter, the Mean Green went low on Del Rio and hit him with a nasty shot to his knee. He had to pulled helped off the field and did not return to the game.

Head coach Jim McElwain talked about the injury after the game and made it seem like their quarterback could be out for an extended period of time. It certainly seems like he will be out for next week’s trip to Knoxville against the Tennessee Volunteers.

It doesn’t look great, so we’ll do whatever,” McElwain said, per The Associated Press. “Somebody else will play and we’ll get some guys ready and move forward and get ready to go play next week.”

Del Rio has looked pretty great on the year so far as he has completed 61 percent of his passes for 762 yards and six touchdowns against just two interceptions.

The Gators face off against the Volunteers next week at 3:30 p.m. EST on CBS.
