During Week 3 of the college football season, the Louisville Cardinals proved they are a threat to bring home the ACC Championship and a legit College Football Playoff contender when they rolled through the Florida State Seminoles, 63-20.
As a result of their dominating performance, the Cardinals have been honored by the Football Writers Association of America as the FWAA National Team of the Week.
The news was announced on Monday’s edition of “Playbook,” hosted by Chris Carlin and Gino Torretta on SiriusXM Radio’s “College Sports Nation.” This marks the second time Louisville has been named the FWAA National Team of the Week and the first time since 2006.
“We know all about them coming back and not just against us, but against other teams and what they were able to do,” head coach Bobby Petrino said after the big win.
“We just talked about finishing, playing one play at a time, working on the process and letting the scoreboard take care of itself.”
Louisville is now 20-0 as a ranked team at home under Petrino.
The Cardinals return to action this weekend on the road against the Marshall Thundering Herd.
Past FWAA National Team of the Week winners:
Week 2: Arkansas Razorbacks
Week 1: Houston Cougars
