Rece Davis: Ohio State, not Alabama, should be No. 1

When the latest AP Top 25 Poll was released, it was the Alabama Crimson Tide who held the No. 1 spot in the rankings over Ohio State. However, one ESPN college football analyst believes the Buckeyes are more deserving of the top honor.

ESPN College GameDay host Rece Davis shared his top four rankings on social media Monday morning when he placed the Buckeyes over the reigning national champions.

Rounding out the top four was the Louisville Cardinals and Houston Cougars.

Davis, who is actually an Alabama alum, explained his reasoning for placing the Buckeyes in the top spot.

With both teams having so much talent, you have to find one key area to split hairs. For Davis, that comes down to the quarterback position and since JT Barrett has more experience than Alabama’s Jalen Hurd, Ohio State gets the advantage.

It’s hard to argue that.

Alabama has steamrolled their opponents through three weeks — despite a slow start against Ole Miss — but the Buckeyes have done much of the same, with Ohio State’s most impressive win coming over Oklahoma in Week 3.

Regardless of who is more deserving of the No. 1 spot at this time, there is a very good chance we could see the two teams settle the score in the College Football Playoff.
