Auburn quarterback Sean White has had a decent year for the Tigers and despite a 1-2 start, he will still take the field when they host the LSU Tigers this weekend. He won’t give up his spot to either Jeremy Johnson or John Franklin III.
Head coach Gus Malzahn made the announcement during his press conference on Tuesday. He said White “gives us the best chance of winning” and he will need to play perfectly to beat LSU this weekend.
“Sean White is going to be our starter,” Malzahn said. “John Franklin will be available, if needed, but we’re going to go with Sean and we’re confident with that.”
So far, White has the second best completion percentage in the SEC with a 63.4 mark. He also is 45-71 for 510 yards with three touchdowns and has 22 carries for 56 yards.
In last weekend’s 29-16 loss to Texas A&M, Franklin saw his most action since transferring to Auburn when he took control of the offense in the fourth quarter. He went 4-8 for 37 yards and added 47 yards rushing on nine carries and helped lead the team’s most productive offensive quarter.
It will be interesting to see if Malzahn re-implements a two-quarterback system against LSU on Saturday.
The two teams meet up at 6 p.m. EST on Saturday with the game airing on ESPN.
