It certainly seems like things are changing at Miami and for the better as first-year head coach Mark Richt has the team with an undefeated record and looking like one of the best teams in the ACC. Things are also changing for the team off the field as the Hurricanes are getting ready to reveal plans for a new football facility.
The team will reveal plans for the new indoor practice facility on Friday. It will be built over the turf practice fields the team currently uses and will connect to the the current weight room in the Hecht Athletic Center, along with the locker room in the Schwartz Center for Academic Excellence.
This is big for the Hurricanes as it will likely bring in new recruits. It has been a work in progress for Miami ever since Blake James was hired as athletic director in 2013.
Richt, a Miami alumnus, and his wife, Kathryn, made a $1 million donation to the project. He commented on the donation when he made it earlier this year.
“I love my university, and I want people to understand I’m committed to making it great. We need to help raise the funds to get it done, and I’m hoping it will energize people to know that it needs to be done. I’m not just giving lip service to it, that I truly believe it and I’m willing to invest my life in a lot of ways and our resources, too.”
It will certainly be interesting to see this project when it is completed in the coming months.
