The Tennessee Volunteers ended up pulling out a big win over the Florida Gators on Saturday and snapped their 11-year losing streak to the SEC East rival. This leaves Gators defensive back Quincy Wilson, who guaranteed a win over Tennessee, to eat his words.
Wilson made the guarantee this week, with his infamous have you ever seen a “duck pull a truck” quote. When asked if he regretted making the comments, Wilson simply responded, “No.”
Then, he continued to face the media, preaching a new message of humility.
“I think the main lesson here is when we get up by a lot, just keep pushing, keep going, keep doing the things we were doing to get up like that and not get content,” he said, via Scout.com. “I mean we’re definitely humbled. We’ve just got to come out next week and make the corrections on film and come out and win next week.”
“I think maybe as a team we got a little content that we were up 21-3 at the half. We just, I don’t know, we just started feeling like we could get away with not doing what we were doing to win, to get up like we were up.”
While the loss was disappointing for Jim McElwain’s team, Wilson is still focused on the ultimate goal: winning a national title.
“National championship teams always go in there with one loss. We ain’t worried about it,” he said. “Just fix those errors we made on film and make sure we’re staying on top of things.”
The Gators take the field against the Vanderbilt Commodores on Oct. 1 as they look to turn things around.
