On Saturday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped a game to the Duke Blue Devils after entering the game as a 21-point favorite. It led to the team firing defensive coordinator Brian Vangorder and now it has landed them an embarrassing honor.
ESPN released its “Bottom 10” Tuesday morning and the Fighting Irish landed at the No. 5 spot. This list included teams like FIU and Rice, so it is certainly unfamiliar territory for the now 1-3 Fighting Irish.
From the Bottom 10:
“Losing to Texas on the road? No shame in that. Losing a heartbreaker to Michigan State? Hey, welcome to the club. Losing to a 1-2 Duke team with no quarterback in the House that Knute Rockne Built? Welcome to the Coveted Fifth Spot!”
This is certainly not a good look for the Fighting Irish, a team that started the season in the AP top ten and had a legitimate shot at the College Football Playoff.
It will be interesting to see how this team can bounce back from their embarrassing loss last weekend.
