Clemson football holds off NC State in thriller

NC State had a chance to get on the bus as winners during regulation. All they needed to do was connect on a 33-yard field goal down the middle as time expired and they would have pulled off the upset.

Wide-right. The game was headed into overtime, but it felt like NC State had already had the air knocked out of them.

Clemson, heavy favorites coming in to the game, looked flat on offense. They failed to move the ball with the kind of rhythm you would expect from a team that is ranked third in the country. Deshaun Watson had to throw the ball 52 times, threw two touchdowns and rushed for another to give Clemson the victory of the upset minded NC State team.

NC State rushed the ball effectively, with Matthew Dayes toting to the tune of 102 yards on 22 carries. At the end of four quarters, it was even.

Clemson made quick work of NC State in the free football period. They scored on their first possession and intercepted an NC State pass in the end zone on their first offensive play of overtime. And just like that, Clemson escaped, 24-17.
