Texas football rumors: Tom Herman to Longhorns ‘all but official’

If the latest rumors are any indication, Tom Herman’s time as head coach of the Houston Cougars could be coming to a close.

On Monday, rumors surfaced that Herman becoming the next head coach of the Texas Longhorns following the 2016 college football season is “all but official.”

That, of course, would mean the Lonhorns are set to move on from current head coach Charlie Strong after the season.

The latest rumor falls in line with the recent buzz in college football circles.

FOX Sports’ Bruce Feldman and Stewart Mandel recently discussed Herman and shared their belief that it will come down to Texas and the LSU Tigers for his services.

Once all is said and done, Feldman thinks it is “close to a guarantee” that Herman ends up with the Longhorns.

I think it’s a guarantee you’d get him, or close to a guarantee you’d get him,” Feldman said earlier this season. “I think it’s close to a guarantee if Charlie Strong is not the head coach that Texas will go get Tom Herman.”

After missing out on joining the Big 12 and following a disappointing loss, the timing makes sense for Herman to begin exploring opportunities.

There is no doubt Texas would be interested, it will all come down to whether Herman is ready for another challenge that will come with much more pressure than his current situation in Houston.
