One member of the Texas Longhorns made an eye brow raising comment on Monday afternoon when speaking to the media ahead of this weekend’s Big 12 clash with the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Longhorns defensive end Breckyn Hager was speaking to the media when he discussed stopping Texas Tech’s high-powered offense.
For Hager, the goal is to “injure the quarterback,” that being Patrick Mahomes.
Breckyn Hager says multiple times that they want to "injure that quarterback". Trying not to take this out of context…don't think we are.

Breckyn Hager says if you're on Texas defense, "You should be going to bed dreaming about playing Mahomes."

It’s understandable that the Longhorns defense is focused on Mahomes, who has been lighting up opposing defenses week after week, but you can’t enter a game with the intent to injury.
Making such public statements also brings some added attention, meaning referees could be extra quick to throw a flag if they see too many Texas defenders around Mahomes after the whistle. It will be an interesting storyline to watch.
Kickoff between the Red Raiders and Longhorns is set for noon ET at Jones AT&T Stadium on FOX Sports 1.
