Illinois basketball lands five-star recruit Jeremiah Tilmon

The Illinois basketball program received some great news on Thursday afternoon when five-star recruit Jeremiah Tilmon announced he would be joining the Fighting Illini.

University of Illinois head coach John Groce announced Tilmon signed his national letter of intent.

Tilmon becomes the highest-rated player to ever commit to the Illini under the leadership of Groce and the first five-star recruit of the Groce era in Champaign.

“We are thrilled to officially welcome Jeremiah to the Illini family,” Groce said in a statement released by the university. “He has been a top priority for our program for a number of years. Jeremiah has tremendous size, talent and skill. He is a dominant big with unlimited potential.

“Jeremiah is one of the best frontcourt players in the country. He has everything you want at that position, he’s skilled, a good scorer and passer, protects the rim, plays with toughness, and understands the game.”

The East Saint Louis standout is rated as the No. 9 power forward in the nation and a top 25 player overall. The 6-foot-10 forward is the top-rated player in the state of Illinois.

Groce has to be thrilled that he got Tilmon to stay close to home.
