Malik Hooker intends to return for senior season at Ohio State

It has been a breakout year for Ohio State safety Malik Hooker and he has likely done enough to make himself a very rich man when the NFL draft comes around in late April.

However, he doesn’t seem to be in such a rush to get out of school and declare for the draft. When asked whether he intended to declare for the draft when the time came, Hooker was resolute in his determination to come back to OSU… kinda.

“Right now, it’s 100 percent sure I’m coming back to Ohio State,” Hooker told Tim May of The Columbus Dispatch.

That would be music to Buckeye ears if it weren’t for those first two words: right now. The problem with right now is that in two months, when the national championship has been played, it won’t be right now anymore.

What will Hooker decide when the time really comes? Millions of dollars are hard to pass up when the alternative is playing for free, possibly getting hurt or playing badly and lessening your actual dollar amount when it comes time to cash in.

Hooker, who had an interception return for a touchdown against Michigan this past week, has seen his stock rise from relative obscurity to tangible assets coaches and scouts will be anxious to get on the practice field.

He might be “100 percent,” but that is all but negated by the fact that it’s only for “right now.”
