Ohio State reports active shooter on campus

UPDATE: After initial reports of a shooting on campus, it has been confirmed that the suspect ran his car into a crowd of people before emerging and wildly swinging a machete at random people.


UPDATE: The scene is now secure. All classes at Ohio State have been canceled for the remainder of the day.

UPDATE: Sources tell ABC 6/FOX 28 at least three people were shot. Another report indicates there are two suspects, one at large and one down. Seven have reportedly been transported to the hospital.

A professor has also said “a collegue was slashed by a machete.”

UPDATE: The Ohio State Department of Public Safety continues to urge students to seek shelter.


There is a frightening situation ongoing on the Ohio State campus, according to the university’s Department of Public Safety website. On Monday morning, Ohio State announced an active shooter alert.

The Department of Public Safety urged students to seek shelter and to avoid the area.

“Buckeye Alert: Active Shooter on campus. Run Hide Fight. Watts Hall. 19th and College,” a brief statement on Twitter read.

There is no word on whether anyone was injured.
