Texas football team will decline bowl game if invited

The Texas football team will not be going bowling in 2016.

Despite having a 5-7 record and not being bowl eligible based off of record, the Longhorns could still have received a bowl invitation if they have one of the highest academic progress rates (APR) in the nation.

However, on Friday the university told Kevin Lyttle of the American-Statesmen that they would not be accepting any invitation.

Texas has one of the top APRs in the nation, so they likely would have received an invite to the postseason.

Ultimately, the Longhorns have chosen to focus on the transition to new head coach Tom Herman, who left the Houston Cougars to replace Charlie Strong late last month.

It was reportedly Herman’s decision whether the Longhorns would accept a bowl game invitation, and he has clearly spoken.
