On Saturday night, the Penn State Nittany Lions took care of business by mounting an impressive come-from-behind victory to upend the Wisconsin Badgers and claim the Big Ten Championship.
With the conference championship under their belt and a win over the Ohio State Buckeyes on their resume, many believe the Nittany Lions should earn a spot in the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately, they entered Saturday sitting at No. 7.
Knowing that Penn State will need some help from the selection committee on Sunday afternoon when the final rankings come out, head coach James Franklin deliverd a message to those who will decide his team’s fate.
Penn State sits behind Ohio State, Clemson, Washington and Michigan.
Clemson and Washington won their conference championships on Saturday and should firmly be in the final four, while Penn State beat Ohio State but got railroaded by Michigan.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it all plays out, but if a conference champion is left out of the playoff for a team they beat earlier in the season, you can be sure to hear some grumbling about expanding the playoff or making clearer guidelines for selection in the future.
