Former Heisman Trophy winner Rashaan Salaam dies at 42

On Saturday night, a new member of the Heisman fraternity will be announced. Unfortunately, on Tuesday afternoon, news broke that another member of the Heisman family has passed away at the age of 42.

Rashaan Salaam, the former star running back of the Colorado Buffaloes, was found dead Monday night in a Boulder Park.

No signs of foul play were found, according to the school’s announcement.

“The Buff Family has lost an outstanding young man and a great Buff today,” Athletic Director Rick George said in a statement. “We are heartbroken for Rashaan and his family and our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.”

Salaam earned the 1994 Heisman Trophy after an incredible season where he totaled 2,055 yards on the ground.

Along with being the Heisman Trophy winner, Salaam also earned the Doak Walker Award as the best running back in the country.

Our deepest condolences go out to Salaam’s family and friends at this difficult time.
