UFC rumors: Nate Diaz, Khabib Nurmagomedov fight for interim title in the works?

One of the latest UFC rumors indicates we could soon see another interim title added to the mix.

According to a report from ‘The Line: With Anna Jane Kesington’ this week, Nate Diaz has been offered an interim lightweight title fight against top 155-pound contender Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209.

“Nate Diaz has been offered an interim title fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 209,” Kesington said. “The fight was originally offered to Tony Ferguson, but he was asking for too much money.”

The report comes at the same time that Tony Ferguson reportedly is set to hold out for a new contract. He was initially expected to face Nurmagomedov in a No. 1 contender fight.

If the Diaz-Nurmagomedov fight does come to fruition, it would set up an epic bout for later in 2017 between the winner and current champion Conor McGregor, who is taking time off after a busy 2016 for the birth of his first child with longtime girlfriend Dee Devlin.

Nurmagomedov is widely considered the biggest threat to McGregor’s throne, while Diaz is the last man to defeat the brash Irishman. A win over Nurmagomedov would set up a blockbuster trilogy fight between Diaz and Nurmagomedov.

What say you, MMA fans? Would you be interested in a potential Diaz-Nurmagomedov interim title fight?
