FAU football: Kendal Briles named offensive coordinator

New FAU football coach Lane Kiffin added to his staff on Friday night, announcing former Baylor Bears offensive coordinator Kendal Briles will run the offense in Boca Raton.

Kiffin told Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated of the hiring.

Briles reportedly was also drawing interest from programs like Houston and Notre Dame.

The 34-year-old Briles led one of the most dynamic, up-tempo offenses during his time at Baylor. As one of the brightest offensive minds in college football, it should be interesting to see what he and Kiffin can do together at FAU.

Of course, Briles comes with his own controversy.

The son of ex-Baylor head coach Art Briles was one of three Bears assistants guilty of violating recruiting rules. Briles was independently reprimanded by the university in 2015 after the violations came to light.
