Miami football: 7 players suspended for bowl game

The Miami football team is set to take on West Virginia on Wednesday, Dec. 28 in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, they will be without seven players for the game. The players were suspended for failure to “meet the standards of expectations set by the program,” according to ACCSports.com.

The seven players who were suspended and did not travel with the team are:

Wide receiver O’Juan Carney, tight ends Jovani Haskins and Michael Irvin II, defensive linemen Tyreic Martin and Gerald Willis, and defensive backs Jeff James Jr. and Cedrick Wright.

None of the suspended players were major contributors during the 2016 season.

Kickoff between the Hurricanes and No. 14 Mountaineers is set for 5:30 p.m. ET at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Live coverage will be available on ESPN and the WatchESPN app.
