NFL Draft order 2017: Browns ‘clinch’ No. 1 pick with loss

The NFL Draft is devised in a way that would make Robin Hood smile; take from the rich and give to the poor. This season, the Browns have languished in poverty more than any other team, and as a result, should end up with the top selection in the 2017 NFL Draft.

However, with the equally impoverished 49ers lurking within striking distance, the final week of the season might have people on alert for “tanking.”

The Browns, who won their first game of the season last week, have very little to gain by winning their final game against the Steelers in the regular season finale. Meanwhile, the Steelers, who locked up their spot in the playoffs with a thrilling comeback win against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend, will likely be trotting out the second-stringers for most of the game.

Playing against a bunch of back-ups and retreads might give the Browns a fighting chance to ruin their season even more than anyone could have imagined. The San Francisco 49ers pose the only real threat to the Browns for the top selection. The 49ers, who beat the Rams twice for their only victories this season, also stand to gain very little with a victory.

If the Browns lose in Week 17, the will “clinch” the No. 1 overall pick in next year’s draft. So go out there and get the “L,” Cleveland.

Do it for your fans.
