The NC State defense will not be returning its leading tackler in 2017.
On Tuesday, redshirt junior safety Josh Jones announced he would be forgoing his final year of eligibility to declare for the 2017 NFL Draft. Jones’ decision comes after NC State’s 41-17 shellacking of Vanderbilt in the Independence Bowl on Monday evening.
Jones announced his decision with a statement on Twitter.
“I have decided that it’s best for me to forgo my fifth year of eligibility in college and enter the 2017 NFL Draft,” Jones said. “This decision was not easy. I came to NC State as a young boy and I’m leaving as a man.
“My road along the way has not been a smooth one, it has been with a lot of learning experiences, but I wouldn’t redo any of it because it helped me grow into a man.”

This season, Jones recorded 106 tackles, two interceptions, a sack and a forced fumble.
