With a number of conference schedules opening today, drama and upsets were abound. The North Carolina Tar Heels, who have looked very impressive while making their way through their non-conference schedule, fell to a subpar Georgia Tech team today, 75-63.
Led mostly by Josh Okogie, who finished with 26-points, five rebounds and three assists, the Yellow Jackets handled North Carolina from opening tip to closing buzzer. His performance was the critical piece in overcoming the 18-points that oddsmakers were spotting the Yellow Jackets to even the playing field.
However, struggles from North Carolina stars Josh Jackson and Joel Berry II played a large part as well.
Unable to find the bottom of the hoop with regularity, the duo finished just 9-of-30 and the whole team shot only 33 percent from the field. With 20 turnovers on top of all that, it is safe to say that stifling defense allowed the underdog Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets open their conference with a highly improbable win.
If their zone defense is able to vex more opponents the way in the same way, they will be a tough out every time the step on the floor.
