Golden Globes 2017: Meryl Streep acceptance speech takes aim at Donald Trump

On Sunday night, Meryl Streep received the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the 2017 Golden Globes, which is awarded annually for “outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.”
After accepting her award, Streep gave a passionate and emotional acceptance speech that was a blistering attack on president-elect Donald Trump.
Streep called for the press to hold Trump accountable for his actions and to preserve the truth, while criticizing Trump for his hateful actions during the campaign — which included mocking a disabled reporter.
“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners, and if you kick us all out, you’ll have nothing to watch except for football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts,” Streep said. “Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose.
“We need the principled press to hold power to account, to call them on the carpet for every outrage … We’re going to need them going forward and they’re going to need us to safeguard the truth.”

Stay tuned, because you know it’s only a matter of time until the president-elect gets out his angry little Twitter fingers for a response.
