There was something in the air during Saturday’s slate of college basketball games. First, we saw coaches from the Georgia and Missouri men’s basketball teams nearly come to blows.
Then, later in the day, the UNLV and Utah State women’s basketball teams literally threw down in a bench-clearing brawl at Cox Pavilion in Las Vegas.
After UNLV’s Brooke Johnson was fouled in the third quarter, Lady Rebels sophomore center Katie Powell and Utah State senior forward Antoina Robinson exchanged shoves before punches were thrown. That’s when the benches cleared, which resulted in eight players — four from each team — being ejected.
Nearly everyone was involved in the brawl, including one player who left the UNLV bench with a bum leg and hopped her way to the action on one foot.

The Lady Rebels went on to defeat Utah State, 55-53, in overtime thanks to two steals in the final 20 seconds from Johnson, who led the way for her team with 18 points, seven rebounds, three assists and four steals.
UNLV returns to action at the Cox Pavilion on Wednesday against New Mexico.
