Michigan Basketball: Team Plane Involved In Accident During Takeoff

The University of Michigan basketball team survived a scare as their plane was attempting to take off in high winds.

The plane attempted to abort the takeoff but began to slide and lost control, eventually coming off the runway. The plane sustained extensive damage, but everyone inside the plane was unharmed and was safely evacuated.

Michigan representatives shared photos of the plane and issued a statement on the matter via social media.

The Wolverines were on their way to Washington D.C. for their game against the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Michigan finished the season 20-11 and capped their season with a 93-57 blowout win against Nebraska. Michigan is attempting to secure alternative transportation to the game and is expected to arrive on time.

While none of the players sustained physical injuries as a result of the incident, don’t underestimate the potential mental toll something like this might take. Travel is supposed to be one of the more drama free aspects of tournament season.

They already figured to have their hands full with a competitive Illinois team and this certainly doesn’t make things any easier.
