Texas Football: Longhorns Making Push For QB Malik Zaire

Tom Herman and the Texas football program are looking to add another signal-caller for the 2017 season.
After making a push for LSU transfer Brandon Harris, only to see him ultimately decided to go play in the ACC for North Carolina, they’ve turned their eyes on Malik Zaire.
The former Fighting Irish quarterback is looking to transfer out of Notre Dame and is beginning to run out of options. Originally, Zaire had eyes set on either Wisconsin, North Carolina or Baylor.
Baylor recently announced the signing of Arizona transfer Anu Solomon.
The option of Wisconsin still exists for Zaire, but Texas appears to be getting a foot in the door through process of attrition. According to a report from Scout.com, the Longhorns have already formally reached out to Zaire.
The Longhorns are hoping to bring Zaire in to compete against two of the younger quarterbacks it currently has on their roster. The incumbent starter in the land of burnt orange is Shane Buechele; his status atop the depth chart will likely be the most difficult hurdle the Longhorns will have to overcome if they hope to lure Zaire in for this coming season.
As a graduate transfer student, Zaire will be eligible to play right away, though he is likely looking for somewhere he is considered to be the top player at his position and improve his chances at being taken early in the NFL draft at the end of the year.
