South Carolina Basketball Fans Send 'Gamecock Jesus' To Final Four

South Carolina basketball superfan Carlton Thompson, better known as “Gamecock Jesus,” is heading to Phoenix to root on his favorite team in the Final Four of the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
Gamecocks fans came together to hold a fundraiser for Thompson, after he has dedicated more than four decades of his life to cheering for the university’s various sports teams. Now, he’ll get to experience first-hand the school’s first Final Four trip along with his lifelong friend and sons.
South Carolina fans started a GoFundMe account with a goal of $4,000.
The description read:

Gamecocks, Send Gamecock Jesus to the Final Four. He’s always been there for us and our team, and now it’s time to give him something in return. Please donate! Go Cocks!

As of the time of this posting, the fundraiser has soared past its goal and has raised $7,434.
The campaign starter also provided an update to confirm “Gamecock Jesus” will be on his way to Phoenix for the weekend.

Gamecock Jesus is on his way to Phoenix! We raised enough money for Gamecock Jesus as well as his lifelong friend, Eddie Kester, to make the journey to the Final Four. With all the love and support, we can also get his two sons, Greg and Nick Thompson there too! Gamecock Nation is doing an incredible thing for this man and his family. Please continue to share and donate! Go Cocks!

Incredible.
It’s great to see the South Carolina fan base rallying together to help out one of their own. What else would you expect from a fan base that is riding a high like never before?
